 Shammi and Mickala
« Thread Started on Oct 25, 2009, 4:16pm »

Shammi has been wee-ing on things lately.....which has caused Mickala to spray. I took Shammi to the vet on wednesday to see if everything was ok....she appears to be the picture of health, but her blood test showed a 23% drop in her white blood count. I now have to try to get a sample of her wee for the vet!

Shammi coming back from the vet smelling of antieptic sent Mickala into her highly strung behaviour, so we've had hissing and spitting and fighting for the last few days! Jasmin and Saffi have been lovely with them both and seem to be trying to calm things down.

I hope Shammi is ok and nothing sinister is going on with her insides.
I will keep you posted!

My fingers are firmly crossed for Shammi. She's young, strong and well cared for, so here's hoping it's just a minor glitsch.

I think we should all spare a thought for you too, running around with a mop in your hand cleaning up after the pair of them!

Oh dear! I can recommend a mixture of diluted bicarb and vanilla essence in an aerosol for removing any lingering smells. (I had a fair bit of experience of it myself as The Boys got into extreme old age and didn't always make it into their tray.)

The vet thinks Shammi has a urine infection, so I have started her on the antibiotics. I hope that will deal with her 'problem'.....meanwhile, things have quietened down a bit and all the girls are snuggling up together at night again!

The Anti-biotics work everytime with Shonie :D she seems prone to urine infections and bladder problems when we have changed her dry food diet ... So we don't change her diet anymore LOL

Shammi seems to have stopped the 'big wee', but she's still spraying on things too. She's still very boisterous and bouncing on Mickala, which makes Mickala hiss and spit!
I think I have a cat with ADHD! All this seemed to start after they both went for their yearly boosters.

You must be demented by now Lesley!

Do you think there's a link between this happening and the booster?

I don't know, Ann...I had been thinking there could be.

They all get a bit upset anyway then and that's why I initially didn't take much notice, but then things didn't settle. There are signs that Shammi's calming a bit today, and the vet is keeping her on the antibiotics for 10 days. I just hope she hasn't 'learned' that behaviour as her norm! There are more times now when they're all cuddled up together again and a bit less hissing. Shammi is a bit like Tigger in Winnie the Pooh! I'm just glad the washing machine is working!!!

Hi Lesley,

Spraying as you know is normally a dominance thing, maybe she is trying to become top cat with Mickala?

As to the ADHD, don't laugh at it, it can happen, but it is normally a male dominant condition though. (xy chromosome thing that I don't have enough knowledge on)
These types of conditions are more prevalent in our pets than we realize, Shonie for example is Downs Syndrome and Autistic, this make for temperamental interaction and Obsessive/Compulsive behavior (over washing 1 spot, like her paw or tummy until it is red raw) and possessive object obsession (me being the object ::)) until it drives you mad.

Hopefully though she should settle soon ;D

Thanks, Cathrin. She is trying to dominate Mickala...there's neck biting too, but Mickala is quite frightened of her now and growls and hisses even when she just walk past. The other two try to keep out of things, but they're quite upset by it all. I already said to the vet that Shammi is behaving more like a male than a female!
