WOW!!!! That beach could be any one of the many we have here in Australia. And here I was thinking that all UK beaches are like shell grit, or even gravel. Lillibet.

Ann,
I have to admit that I'm not a beach-lover personally but I must say these photos are fantastic - I love the fact that the beach is so isolated - can't think of anything worse than people all crammed together on the sands, like they are on a hot day in 'sunny Weymouth'!
Seeing as we have had pics of our gardens, why not a new thread for pics of our local beaches?! There are two within 8 miles of my village - Weymouth sands, as mentioned above, and Chesil Beach, 18 miles long, approx., consisting of pebbles graded in size - small at the western end and large at the eastern end!

so beautiful! i had no idea the beaches were so lovely!
funny we just went last week to a large beach (about an hour outside of victoria - so it was actually facing the pacific) forgot the camera of course. we went to this beach last autumn, i thought it was an all rock beach (we collected a few for the garden) and that it wouldn't be busy because of this. well, you can tell i'm new to the coast - the tide must have been in when we were last there - because the beach is enormous, very sandy, and fairly busy!
next time i'll bring the camera. it's so much fun with toddlers - you drive for an hour, get sick in the car, stay for a few minutes on the beach, play on the slides and park equipment - and after about 25 minutes, everyone is crying (mom and dad incl) and then you get back in the car and drive the hour back home - falling asleep 5 minutes before we get to our driveway!

Lesley,
I loved your description of a day at the beach with toddlers. But remember to tuck the camera in your bag in future, I'd really enjoy seeing some more pictures of the Pacific north west.
The north east beaches are England's best kept secret! The part of Druridge Bay we were at is completely "unspoilt". The carpark is non existant, you drive along a short track and park on the grass alongside it. There are no lavatories, no shops, no amusements, not even a hamburger van.

What a glorious beach Ann, I had no idea that we have places like that in Northumberland, the serenity of it reminds me of the north Norfolk coast which is a place that I love, such wide, open skies.
Lesley
I agree with Ann, would love to see some pictures of your coast. Remember it well by the way(although mine are full grown and left the nest now), the joys of taking a young family to the beach! ;D

Beautiful photos of the sea coast, how I envy all of you that lived near the sea. Being originally from Rhode Island (the Ocean State) and living ten minutes (by car) from Bullocks Cove, it is the one thing that I never got over missing. In my mind's eye; I still can envisioned the sounds of the gulls flying over the sparkling waves, the fresh invigorating sea breeze and the soft white sand of the shoreline...
