We planted a peach tree in the garden last summer, and look! this year we have tiny little peaches forming! Considering I didn't really expect the tree to thrive, the fruit is a real bonus! Whether it will manage to stay on the tree long enough to grow full size remains to be seen though!

I'm SO envious! I'd love to be able to grow peaches. I get so sick of seeing rock hard ones in the shops. It would be wonderful to be able to stroll down the garden and pick perfectly ripened ones straight off the tree.

Well, best not 'count our chickens' yet, Ann!!! ;D One of our stiff sea breezes might put paid to any dreams of sun ripened fruit becoming reality!
We also have a small nectarine tree which Tone grew from a pip/stone/whatever you like to call it! And this year there is the first fruit (only one!) on that as well - but correct me if I am wrong - nectarines have smooth skin? Well, this nectarine thinks it's a peach and has a fuzzy skin! But it was definitley taken from a nectarine! Very odd!

Sue - I hope they continue to grow. It is possible! My grandparents had a peach tree in their back garden many years ago, that yielded real peaches! They lived in the centre of a busy town too, although the tree was in a sheltered spot and probably in a suntrap. My grandparents are long gone but the house is still there. It's now a restaurant. I wonder if the peach tree is still in the garden. Good luck! Let us know how they grow!! Maria

Maria - maybe you could book a table at the restaurant and ask if peaches are on the menu! Seriously though, you could enquire if the tree is still in the garden. It would be wonderful if it was, then you could ask for a peach from it and try and grow a new tree......!

Sue - I may just do that! I don't know why I've never thought of visiting there before, but I would be disappointed to learn that the tree wasn't there any more. I'm also thinking recipes....Dorset Peach Cake....?? Maria
