Line 13:
"And as the (f)light of morn stole in" !!!
Any chance that's a horse's skull, not a cow's? Making the first word of line 4 "sources" ? ? ?

Indigestion
I could not sleep a wink last night, The world to me seemed upside down. My head upon the pillows white, ????????change hue white to brown And life so far as I could gauge, Seemed like this heiroglyphic page. My heart gave violent ????? knocks As through the dark I clearly traced A wrong lived life and prison docks. Must as I thought full soon be faced, I creased back the pillows around, And shook the leaden feathers bound. And as the (f)light of morn stole in, They found me lying wide awake. And pointed with aglittering grin, To an empty box of cake. How odd/strange that our worst woes by far, Are those which self inflicted are.[/color]#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys#nosmileys

You've come in with an inspired burst here Kaye! Line 13: "And as the (f)light of morn stole in" !!! I think you've got it! Although I wish I could see where it's telling us to discard the "f". Do you think it's the "flight of morn"? Nice try, but I think that would make it "shorsest". Hope you managed to get up all right this morning after burning the midnight oil on this!!

What word would make sense at the start of line 4 , regardless of the picture? Does the 'T' belong to that 1st word? Why are we here? What is the meaning of Life? Would you like fries with that?

What word would make sense at the start of line 4 , regardless of the picture? Does the 'T' belong to that 1st word? Why are we here? What is the meaning of Life? Would you like fries with that? Too early for fries, but I'm wondering what's the significance of the small letter "c" ? And is spelling important? If so, then it's "hew," not "hue," and I wonder if it's saying something like "...... he white to brown" ? Is it an ox skull? Making it something about "socks change white to brown" ? Oy, I need to go back to bed .....

Too early for fries, but I'm wondering what's the significance of the small letter "c" ? It's the first letter of the next word c-hang(e) I'm not sure where the "e" is though. Yes and no! Reading through the Examiner's Reports in later books, the puzzles are very very precise when it comes to a letter here or a letter there. Hence my hesitation when I can't find anything to tell me a letter should be removed or added. This puzzle came from what appears to be the first year the poems were included however and reading the Examiner's Reports of the very first few, the compiler seems to be feeling his way a bit, so they're not quite as accurate. Phonetic clues are sometimes used, so "hew" can become "hue" and "bough+nd" bound. "t" can sometimes signify "tee" meaning "ty" as in the line "empty box of cake". I wondered that at one point too, but it doesn't really add up. I've also tried everything I can to make an animal out of "heet" so it would be "sheet". I think we're looking for 3 syllables. I'm also wondering if it's something to do with watching or seeing the colours of "something" change from white to brown as the darkness falls.

It's the first letter of the next word c-hang(e) I'm not sure where the "e" is though. But I mean why is it a SMALL letter? Does the word "small" figure into the rhyme? " ....... small change (something) white to brown"

But I mean why is it a SMALL letter? Does the word "small" figure into the rhyme? " ....... small change (something) white to brown" It could do. I'd missed that. But yes, that's exactly the sort of thing to look for. (The speed with which you're picking this up is frightening me!!)In the second to last line, there's something similar that Graham and I picked up on. We're still debating whether the way "how" is written is odd, strange, or another adjective entirely.#nosmileys
