This year David and I went on holiday for the first time in 12 years and it's all thanks to Spock and Dracs. About 3 years ago I started to correspond directly with another member, we had a lot in common and seemed to get on very well. I cried with her when her cat died and I sent flowers when her dear husband was taken ill and subsequently passed away. I had this feeling that I just needed to go and see her in person, one problem - I'm in the U.K. and she's in the U.S.A. and I hate flying. Anyway I became convinced that I had to go and see her so I called her and arrangements were made. We were off to see Bobbie and the famous 'Captain Cool'.
We flew to Washington DC at the end of April this year and drove down to Georgia to meet with her and her daughter. They were so gracious and showed us around Augusta and then we all went off to Charleston, South Carolina for a couple of days. It made such a difference having somebody local to the area to show us around. We laughed a lot and had such a good time. I'm not going to bore everybody with the 114 holiday snaps - so here are just a few of the appropriate and amusing ones.
Wendy took us to her favourite art and craft shop and David found somebody to talk to while we girls were inside the shop: Thaddeus T Grenouille as he's now known
And here we are making friends with him too, I'd like to say I'm the slim young thing on the left but I'd be lying and I'm not the slim distinguished looking lady on the right either
I had quite a shock to find out that Fort Sumter isn't actually in the 'Wild West', funny how I always imagined that it was - it's in Charleston harbour.
Here's the three of us outside our hotel on Daniel Island the day that Bobbie and Wendy left for home.
We then trotted off North to the Blue Ridge Mountains - and they really are, just beautiful hills rolling on and on into the distance. In North Carolina we drove up Grandfather Mountain and crossed the 'Mile High Swinging Bridge', and it did - however I did pluck up enough courage to walk across, as quickly as I could of course. It may look cold but in fact it was a beautiful day but chilly because it was so high.
On the opposite ridge was a condominium which I think was called 'Sugar Peak Condos', imagine building a block of apartments up there?
We then drove along the Shenandoah Skyline Parkway - what a drive, here's a picture of the Shenandoah River and valley
After nearly two weeks of trundling around we spent the last three days in the Washington area and took advantage of an evening limousine tour of Washington and we're very glad that we did, we'd never have found our way around on our own and for about £16 each it was well worth it. The monuments at night are just stunning,
We covered nearly 2,000 miles in the two weeks and saw so much, we have so many photos of beautiful views but the photos above are the only ones with either of us actually in them!
So thank you Spock and Dracs for introducing me to such a lovely person and for giving me the courage to get back on a plane - in fact if David gets another good bonus at Christmas, I'm off again - although I don't know what the girls will think.
