This afternoon I went to Morpeth, a small market town about 20 miles north of here with a lot of interesting shops. There were 2 small items I wanted that I knew I could only buy there. In addition to them I came home with 5 books and some cheese which I can't get locally. And I really enjoyed the stop for coffee and lemon meringue pie with lashings of whipped cream.
This was a great improvement on my last trip when all I wanted was one ball of crochet cotton priced £1.71 and came home having spent £60!
My all time record was when I was getting a lot of local publicity for the boys books and going into Newcastle at least once every week to make sure the bookshops there didn't run out of copies. Naturally I had a browse around the shops at the same time and, as a result, am the very proud owner of the kind of hi fi system I'd always dreamed of having.
Am I the only Board member with very little will power?

Nope! We went to buy a new cooker in the sales and I came back with a hi fi. My excuse was that the one I had in the dining room - some people have second TV's - I have 3rd Hi-Fi's! - could go on the boat. The best was at the Coventry and Leicester cat show. We spent well over £100. Beds, toys, fur fabric, and a designer fleece with cats all over it for me. Malcolm hasn't stopped moaning yet at how much it cost! The only problem is it's winter weight and I had to take it off today as I was much too warm!

What's willpower? Come on, I'm the kind of person who is better not to walk out of the with any wallet or plastic at all!!! Even Felia & Drizzt came by way of an errand that went too far! I popped out to get a tub of fish food and came back with two white kittens, and £150 poorer, (and a lot more since in extra kibble, catfood and damaged goods). My resoning was: one was definatly deaf and she would be much safer as a permenant indoor cat (as the rest of ours are) , and I couldn't very well take here without her brother as it was obvious even then that they were true twins rather than just littermates.

I know I am getting away from the subject but I couldn't resist --The kittens are beautiful -- and so lucky to get a good home , where they will be inside and safe.

All the time! I know perfectly well that if i go into a bookshop, i am likely to spend no less than £50. The supermarket is the worst...I leave the house with a list of a few odds and ends, such as 'bread', 'cat litter' and 'washing up liquid'. I leave with a full carload. How does that happen? My nicest 'overspend' was going to the cat shelter for two cats and coming back with three. The joke in our house is that there was a "three for the price of two" offer on that day! Maria & Cats

I am also terrible! My boyfriend calls me a feline bibliophile because I love anything cats and anything books! I have so many cat books in fact, it is practically embarrassing. And cat toys, please! Iggy and Bowie are completely spoiled. My only solice is that they do definitely enjoy all of their toys. I will come home and the basket will be knocked over with toys spread all around the floor. I have no will power so no your are not alone. In fact for lunch today will take a nice walk to enjoy the good weather and if I hapened to end up in the Borders bookstore all the better! Christina

We've found that the only way we can go to the supermarket is to make sure we've eaten lunch before we go...it can mean as much as a $50-$75 difference in what we buy....lol...! When you're hungry.....EVERYthing looks good...! There's the other end of this stick, tho....after we've had lunch we don't buy anything at all, and wonder why we don't have anything to eat in the house the next day....! Miles

I've just had a relapse. I went out yesterday to buy some pots for my patio but made the mistake of going via the local factory outlet place. (My favourite shop there closes on Monday, so I just had to see if there were any knock down bargains left!)
I came home without any pots as the shop that sells them didn't have any in the colour I was after.
I now own 2 extra pairs of trousers, some new underwear, and a blouse as well as a few other very small items.

I also had a relapse and it is even more embarrassing. My reason for relapse is that I was too lazy to do my laundry yesterday so I had to buy a shirt on the way in to work this morning. But I got two nice sweaters on clearence for $19 together with tax! At those prices I would be silly not to take advantage. Christina

We have no willpower when it comes to cats. Last time I left it up to Rob as to which cat of two we would have. We came home with both of them! (Charlie and Ming).
We also spent well over £100 on a cat tree. Mind you it was well worth the money and it gets a lot of milage from the cats.
We had a relapse last weekend when we went out to buy some magazines on Saturday and stopped off in John Lewis and came home with a microwave and an ice cream maker!
Oh Dear!

I just did it again!
Went down to Royal Quays to buy some underwear and some stationery (total outlay £11) and came home with a pair of shoes and a wonderful Le Creuset pan as well. The latter is a small cast iron saucepan with a lid that doubles as a non stick frying pan plus it can used in the oven as a casserole dish. Couldn't resist something so original.

My willpower is zero. I work part time in a supermarket and there are very few occations when i go to work and come home without anything! If Im working at night i get the reduced items - like loafs of bread for 10p!! Its a bargain - i have to buy it! Ikea is a bad one too! If i got in to 'just look around' I can rest asure ill spend at least £10. Clothes are my worst failing. I just got a store card (for a shop i hardly go into) and im dying to buy something just to use it!!
