That will work fine Ann, all you need to do is keep the buds out of the cold and drafts and they should flower for you very well

When I uploaded the shots of the blackbird using the new birdbath, I noticed that I'd also got a picture of Mum and baby both proudly sprouting their new spikes.

I've got flowers! Moving them 12" from the windowsill to the top of the microwave seems to have done the trick. Mum has 3 definite flower spikes, which can been seen on the first pic. They don't have as many buds on them as usual, but then you can't have everything and with luck it means I will have at least a couple of flowers in bloom for a few months. I think there may even be a fourth one. Baby is further behind, but the flower spike is coming along nicely.

That's great Ann I didn't remember the flower being so white either, do love the deep red spots too, now it has started the flowers will last quite a while and the spike should get longer with more buds on the end as it grows so it could be in flower continuously now for at least a good 6 months or more I must say though I think it's a very satisfying feeling when you have grown the plants on to re-flower, well done

It's just the angle it was taken from.
Nope, sorry, not addicted, although I'm tickled pink at raising a baby. With a bit of help!

Go on Gill give one a try ;D I did! ;D I saw a rather nice phalaenopsis for just £5 in a supermarket in December 2011 so bit the bullet and bought it. The flowers lasted for weeks - very impressive I must say! That one ended up becoming four - three pink and a white - and I started looking orchids up on the internet and reading books about them I keep mine on the south-facing living room window in the winter months and the north-facing kitchen in the summer and so far they all seem pretty happy with regular repeat flowering. I water them with rain water and have to admit that 2012's wet summer was ALL my fault! Remember that hot, dry March we had? I said to a customer that I hoped we would have some rain soon as I had no rainwater left to water my orchids with.....and just days later it started to rain AND FORGOT TO STOP!!! I had also bought a passion flower in January and put it on the kitchen window....planning to put it out in my pots in May. But it grew so well indoors that I just strung up some wires across my kitchen window and let the passion flower's tendrils snake along them I had a few stunning flowers from the plant too! ;D My kitchen window in August 2012

That's really impressive, well done! My Mum and baby are still doing well, busy growing new leaves and roots at the moment. No sign of any flower spikes appearing, but no doubt they'll come when they're ready.
