I wonder what everyday noises really worry your cats. I think somewhere here before had a similar topic but as we have some new members now, it would be interesting to revive it.
The most fearful noise in our house is tinfoil. Even the slightest rustle is certain to send my cats racing upstairs (skidding on the laminate floor) to the safety of the bedroom windowsill.
They also hate the doorbell. It has the same effect.

The boys are so laid back that I don't think they hate any of the noises inside the house. Not even the vacuum cleaner. Outside is a different story though. A leaf rustling two streets away will send Dracs home. Spock is braver, as befits his macho image, but a stranger walking by sends him scuttling back to the safety of the patio. Once inside it of course, he's back to his nonchalant, "Frightened? Me? Don't be silly!" self.

Noises? The doorbell on its own is ok, but not when accompanied by the sound of childrens voices. The word 'VET' doesn't go down too well either. Vacuum cleaners and hairdryers are detested.

maria, it's funny about the tinfoil; cleo and coco could care less, but it scares the heck out of my 2 year old son! cleo and coco can hear company arriving (on foot or a car door) long before any of us. both of them will hide until the minute the company is out the door. they don't like many noises, hair dryer etc., but they have a way of casually leaving the room, as though it doesn't really frighten them!

:-*Misty and I really hate the vacuum cleaner and hide under the spare bed. Our lady person does give us a head start when she's going to use it - "Come on girls, time to hide" she says.
We can hear the sound of the electronic scales being taken out of the cupboard to weigh our food, however if lady person is cooking and needs the scales for the ingredients we still arrive - just in the hopes you understand!
I'm not very fond of strangers and watch them from the landing, but Misty is a bit of a tart and will show anybody her bottom. Uncontrollable that one.

The cuddle doesn't like the telphone ringing whether in the house or on television. Someone knocking on the door sends most of them under the bed with Schuster growlilng and grumbling that he'll protect us.
If I want to round them all up, I'll whistle--they can't figure out what that strange noise is I'm making and come runnig. If I'm not careful, Mumbles will nip me on the nose to hush me up and Tabitha or Sebastian will pat my face.

Flea spray. If you shake the tin of flea spray they go mad! Every known hidding place id filled in a matter of seconds! Anthony, our unconventional siamese, is frightened of everything. When you vaccum the living room carpet, he will go into the kitchen. Hes frightened of the door bell(as are most of them), the telephone, a strangers voice-that is people who dont live in the house. Really any loud or strange noise. In fact, hes frightened of most things.

I have a new mobile phone! I was playing with the ring tones, the girls all around me on the table. As I switched tones they looked at me, at each other, and fled in all directions! Linda

I won a silly little keyring thing at the amusement arcade at the seaside the other day. (Sad, I know, but my life is stressful and I need these mindless activities....). It's a little furry chick and when you press it's tummy it makes a 'quack quack' noise. That got them running!!!

Our son's friend visited with her baby the other evening. Henry was most perturbed by the noises Merlin (the baby aged 4 months) was making. No aggression, just so curious, he would have climbed all over the baby had I let him, he couldn't keep away! The other two took no notice at all. The Siamese hate the vacuum cleaner, Oscar pretends not to be frightened, but he keeps a pretty good eye on it all the same.

We have a torieshell cat called Angellica-named after the childrens cartoon "The Rugrats". Everything about her is like Angellica from the cartoon (spoilt brat!). This morning i put on the kettle. Angellica was sitting in front of it as usuall. She got up, turned around and stared at this kettle. She is fasinated by the noise. She was very taken with it - until it started to boil. As soon as the steam appeared, Angellica desided it wasnt so interesting after all. She screwed her face up and run away in terror. "How dare you expose me to such horror..." she yelled at me as she ran away. Afterwards she had a face like she has swallowed a wasp - but only for about a half hour until she forgoten all about it. She really is some character. The funny thing is, she does the same thing everyday! They never learn...

poor sam! his photo makes him look so fearless! its funny how cats are so afraid of noises when they can't see the source of the noise. similar to our human respose for 'fear of the unknown' i suppose.

My boys aren't that keen on the binmen either, but I reckon they have reason! One of the binmen has a bit of a temper (he drops litter deliberately, trailing it along the road) but wouldn't anyone be in a mood if they had that job to do?
Noises.... they hate it when I scrape out the pan or stir something too enthusiastically. There was something else the other day that was making them run away, I'm trying to remember what it was... no, it's gone.
