Does anybody have a relative with a silly name in their pedigree? I am - sensibly - Minishka Maidofmemories (Daisy to my friends) - but I have two relatives with silly names - Rantipole Visigoth and Rantipole Toadpipe!! Well I ask you, Siamese cats with names like that, what is the world coming to?

;D Im glad to say the majority of my cats ped names were from me so i think there sensible, apart from Elphins-Orabill Ormer pronounced Horible Ormer-Ormer being a sea slug. Talking of peds if anyones interested,i have researched-in the days before PCs,all on paper files,Siamese peds from 1985-the first pair imported from Siam, also Devon Rex-2002-Kirlee(first devon). So if anyone else linechases and is looking for certain cats i may be able to help. Jayne

We're so pleased to hear from you Daisy. This Board has altogether too many humans hogging it. It needs us cats to add a bit of class to it now and again!
We think you have a lovely pedigree name (unlike some of your ancestors). Unfortunately we don't know what ours were. Simon, with whom we used to live, has all the paperwork and Ann doesn't hear from him any more. Whatever they were, we do feel they were probably more dignified than Spock and Dracs though.
Ann's especially sorry she doesn't have our pedigrees, because she and Catnip are convinced that we're related to her Roscoe. He and Spock could be identical twins and they have some other characteristics, in common too. All she knows is that we were born in Brighton on 8th October 1986 and that Simon originally called us Rameses and Pharoah.

I have a very silly name for a dignified ten year old Siamese. Just because I was a tad mischievous as a kitten, my humans dubbed me Chaos. I vowed from that moment, they would rue the day, that they pinned that moniker on me. I am sure that they regret their faux pas. Nevertheless they have paid the price, for their misnomer on many occasions. My father was a grand champion with a long pedigree, but Bobbie said she did not acquire my brother and me to show or to perpetuate our line. On the contrary, rather just to love us and enjoy our company. A famous human, (who had a way with words,) by the name of Shakespeare, once said..."What's in a name? A rose by any other name would still be a rose." We just wanted to say that we thought that your name was beautiful and you must be delicate, and lovely like the flower you are name for. Purrs to you Daisy, Chaos & co.

Chaos is a super name for a Siamese! We've seen one called Meshuga Homewrecker, so you're not alone. My name is Cloudborn Fredi Firebeetle. Well.... I like it! Could have been worse.

Yes, I was wondering where she got that one from! (Quityerbitchin). It's a small world I've got 3 Cloudborns (the other 2 are Orientals). Have thought a Devon would be nice too, but I'm at my 'cat limit' now.

Hey Daisy, how would you like to go through life being called "Kitty Dum-Dum." That's what my neighbors call their cat.
She runs away a lot.

The subject was cats' names on talkback radio a few days ago. The radio host said cats should be called "cats' names" such as Fluffy, Tiddles, etc., not peoples' names (like ours are). One person phoned in and said her cat was called Same-As. It just arrived at their house and looked the same as the cat they already had!

My neighbor's cat is named "Dizzy." Whoops, I got that wrong. It was a cat named Velcro that cling to everyone. Polyester was so-named because he was smooth, sleek and never needed ironing.

Sorry to butt in, but In my opinion, that kind of comment can only come from someone who doesn't 'know cats' and anyway surely a 'cat name' would be things like: Mrrrrowe, Phhssssst, Wraaaaaaraw or Mowww (to which you could be highly insulting them every time you called them in. Also, how can any self respecting person call a dirty great Main Coon tom, that is the terror of the neighborhood.... Tiddles?

When youve worked for an animal rescue for 15+ yrs, you have many cats come and go - and all of them have to be given names! Weve tried everything; going throught the alphabet (x and z were hard), named them after their place of origin etc.... Jan (who writes as mucklette) should get onto this one. Shes given cats some weird names in their time! The 2 siamese we have had have been called Caesar and Anthony - for obvious reasons, siamese need special names after all. This is our Sam. He came into care when I was only 3 years old so I grew up with him.I gave him the title of "Sam Cosmic-creepers Tinkerbell Chalmers" when i was about 6yrs old! (Cosmic-creepers after the film "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" and Tinkerbell because he used to wear a coller and bell.) He is about 15-16 yrs old now. The picture was taken by Ann on her last visit (Thanx Ann!) Lisa

As one who has seen him in the flesh, Sam is magnificent and a tribute to Cat Register and Rescue. I had no idea of his full name though! I wonder how he feels about Tinkerbell!!

Sam is a very handsome fellow - he has a lovely coat. Cloadborn Fredi is beautiful too. I have never seen that breed here in New Zealand. No, you are right Silk, Tiddles isn't the right name for a Main Coon cat! But then I don't know that Tiddles is a good name for any cat - sorry if anyone has a cat called Tiddles! :-)

Actualy, Sams coat has been recently shaved. His fur gets very matted and because he is getting older, he is not up to grooming it as much now. So every year we get the electric hair shaver out and he gets a poodle cut. The first year we done it we shaved the tail like a poodle dogs and he was so ashamed he wouldnt go outside for weeks!
