Denny,
Yes, I did! I think I already "knew" the characters so well, that the television series didn't work for me at all. I don't remember watching much of it after the first episode or two. The actors, good though they were, just didn't match the mental pictures that were so firmly in my head and I couldn't get into it.
I think it often works far better if you see a series before reading the books. We had a wonderful series of "Barchester Towers" here some years ago which was brilliantly cast. To this day I can't watch Alan Rickman in anything without seeing him as Obadiah Slope. "The Jewel in the Crown" is another that springs to mind. In both cases, I wonder if I'd have been so hooked if I'd read the books before seeing the series.

I am an avid lover of mysteries, some of my favorite authors are, James Patterson, who I think is awesome. He writes a series, about a Washington based psychologist turned detective, Alex Cross. Some of his best sellers are; Along Came A Spider, Jack & Jill, Cat & Mouse, his latest endeavor Violets Are Blue, get my thumbs up.
Anne Perry writes about an Inspector Pitt and his wife Charlotte in Victorian England. Ms. Perry is very descriptive and an excellent storyteller.
Martha Grimes, her main protagonist is Superintendent Richard Jury of Scotland Yard. She also adds a lot of other interesting characters, to the mix, which makes for a witty and stylishly crafted mystery...
If you like a little romance with your mystery you might want to sample Mary Higgins Clark. She spins a tangled web. her latest literary delight Daddy's Little Girl. Those are a few of my favorite authors. Bobbie
