Not feeling well, I let my mobile phone run out of battery power. Not charged them since I was in hospital in fact. I had received a txt msg from Ed. Ed is the one from whom I adopted Poppy and Cubs. He lives quite near Skegness and asked if he could bring his two children over to see us and the cats whilst we were on holiday, although we didn't get a call. He said he'd decided that his two children had had enough upsets just recently in their lives and he thought it better if they remembered the cats from pictures rather than meet with them again. I think he was absolutely right. Ed is still trying to sell the house although we have had the cats since September. He still thinks he can hear them sometimes, he says. What a wrench! I don't think I could let mine go.

Not knowing the back story, it's hard to have an opinion. Not everyone forges the strong bonds with their pets that members here do. I've been lucky in that nothing in my life ever changed so drastically that it affected the cats that were living with me at the time, but I imagine that sometimes unforeseen twists and turns in life can leave a pet owner with unpalatable options. Sometimes too, it's better for the pet to be out of a messy situation that's none of their making. That was certainly the case when I took on The Boys. Spock in particular had been badly affected by what had gone on.

Sometimes it's hard to make the decision to give them up, but there can be a host of reasons that are for the good of the cats. Cats DO remember though...a friend who adopted one and was visited by a former owner and her children reported that while the cat greeted her and was very friendly, the child who has tormented the cat (at least 3 years earlier and had since learned the error of her ways) was hissed at and given a wide birth! I would say don't do anything that might stress your cats out...they may have thought they were going to lose their home again! x

Cats DO remember though.. I can vouch for that. The few times their previous owner came to see them, Spock completely ignored him and indeed made it painfully obvious that he didn't want anything at all to do with him. Dracs bless him, started with the same intention, but couldn't keep it up for more than about 15 minutes.

Hi, hope you're feeling better...
It's better not to see the previous owner it will only cause stress and anxiety, they're already enjoying their lives (the place where they belong)...that's my opinion.
Yes...it's very true that cats do remember!
I found Beauty outside and (her previous owner were my neighbors) I went and asked if they want Beauty back and they said NO so I adopted her, she was 6 months old that time. One day my neighbors daughter want see Beauty and I said okay, when Beauty saw them she was hissing and spitting so upset with them, she remembers how they treated her. Amazing how cats can remember.
