How do cats manage to moult (shed for our overseas members) so prolifically and yet still have a full coat of fur all the time? I seem to spend my life brushing fur off everything. The carpet gets covered, my clothes get covered and the duvet..... well that's something else again. I'm sure if I collected it all, I'd have 2 full coats worth in less than a week.
Put your heads together everyone and let's come up with all the things we could do with it if we did collect it. I'll kick off with,
Stuffing cushions/pillows or, for those with 4 or more cats, mattresses and duvets,
Spinning it into yarn and knitting gloves/mittens or, for those with 4 or more cats, weaving it into a bolt of material.
Hanging it outside so the bluetits/sparrows/blackbirds can use it to line their nests, or for those with 4 or more cats, swans' nests or even emus' nests if you have any nearby.
It's getting late and I'm running out of inspiration. Plus if I come up with too many suggestions, there won't be any left for the rest of you.

How about loft insulation? We have bottle-banks, why not cat fur banks? we'll all send the contents to you Ann, and you can sew it into your suggested duvets and jackets for frozen third world countries.

Topaz,
Do you think I could make a bit extra for the PDSA fundraising while I'm at it?
If we could turn the clock back to those night shifts at Heathrow, and the periods where there was no actual work to do, I'm sure I could have roped a few helpers in! I can just picture you sitting in the Docs Room with your spinning wheel as I type!!

Sabotage!!
Sell it to your government.
Let them empty a sackful in an enemy armoury - that would clog all the guns up nicely.
Then they can empty another sack in the nerve centres and let it gum up the keyboards and hard drives. (I'm frightened to look inside my hard drive these days.)
Just think, if every country did this, we'd have world peace in no time as nothing would work any longer!

I have one of those fake fur fluffy coats that were in fashion a few years ago. It's grey with black spots. I look exactly lile Bella and Liffey when I wear it and eveyone jokes that I'm trying to look like my cats. I need one to look like Pie now so he doesn't feel left out. Maybe I could collect his fur (there's plenty of it around the house) and make a mackrel and white tabby coat.

How about collecting the fur and knitting little fur coats for those poor hairless kitties. They probably get pretty cold during the winter.

Vicki, those poor hairless kittes actually grow fur if they're cold. I know someone who has a Sphinx and he's all furry! When I brush my friend's long haired cats, and I'm the only one who does, I always say there's enough fur to knit another cat!

Sam, one of our mature adults cats (old!) has really dense long black hair. he goes outside so his hair is very matted. we tried to comb them out but there were too many. so we had to buy a mens hair shaver. hes not too keen on the noise so we can only do a little at a time. last summer he got a poodle cut on his tail. it was so funny, he was embarrased to go out as the other neighbourhood cats would just laugh at him. so we are thinking of what we can do with all the hair that is shaven off. a way of giving it back to him. a wooly jumper for the winter? a nice rug for to lie on? a new cat to trick the humans? so many options.....
