I've had my friend Eileen staying here for the past few days. While she was here, she, Jen and I had a day in the Lake District. Jen was the navigator. This led to some interesting diversions from the intended route, accompanied by several comments about towns or lakes having moved since the roadmap she was using was published. We did however get to Ambleside. We also stopped for coffee at a lovely hotel called "The Swan" just outside Grasmere. That's me and Jen basking in the sunshine. Ann

My what a tranquil scene... I can almost hear the gurgling of the lake as it wends its way through the countryside. That lovely old stone building, looks like it was just built, to enhance the ambience of an already charming place. It makes me feel like I would like to step into the photo, and enjoy all the glory of Nature's handiwork. One of my daughter's favorite places in England to visit, was the Lake District, now I have an idea why. Ann and Jen, you look sooo relaxed sitting in the warm sun, and enjoying everything around you.

The Lake District is somewhere that I would love to visit! I have been to Cumbria briefly but I didn't see the Lakes, unfortunately.
Ann - the pictures are lovely! The hotel looks like a most relaxing place to stop and have coffee.

Maria,
The hotel is lovely. I had a mini break there a couple of years ago. It's one of those hotels where you can sink into big armchairs in front of an open fire. The food was gorgeous too.

Believe me, my navigational skills are fine! I've written to the RAC to point out there are a few errors where they positioned the lakes!!!
Really though, we had a lovely day out and the pictures don't do justice to the beautiful scenery.
