We have talked about where we live and seen some lovely pictures. How about a thread about our favourite places? They could be places we have visited on holiday or places we visit a lot closer to home.
Here are some of mine. (I have pictures but I don't yet know how to post them here.....!!!)
Leeds Castle, nr Maidstone, Kent - a really beautiful moated castle where I spent a lot of my youth riding my bicycle in the grounds. I even did a stint as a waitress. I still go there a lot, but I have to pay to get in these days!
Pere Lerchaise Cemetary, Paris - I went here when I was on honeymoon. The resting places of Chopin, Edith Paif, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde and many more are here. The older part is a rambling, fascinating Victorian necropolis and although a lot of people would find it morbid, I like it! (The husband was a tad less enthusiastic).
Glencoe - what can I say? Stunning. Breathtaking. Haunting. Also Glenfinnan and Skye, and probably any part of the Scottish Highlands. I went there last summer for the first time and I can't wait to go back.
William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow. I used to live a five minute walk from here and I really miss it!
Anyone else want to share their favourite places?
Maria ;D

Good idea. Some of my favourite places are abroad, so I'll check the albums and scan a couple of pictures in the next day or two to add to this thread.

I fell in love with Sri Lanka when I went there on holiday a few years ago. Asia has always fascinated me and I can't resist novels set there. ("A Suitable Boy" by Vickram Seth was one of the best I've ever read.) Sri Lanka is the only part of it I've ever got to it and it lived up to every expectation. The first picture is of gem mines, sapphires are the stones for which Sri Lanka is famous. We literally stopped by the side of the road, walked across the neighbouring paddy field and there we were. Security was non existent. This next one is in hill country where all the tea plantations are. The views were breathtaking. We got to the tea factory just as the pickers were coming back from the fields. It was exactly like the pictures you see on the PG Tips packets. But the place where I dream of having my second home is Malta. They say it's an island you either love or hate. I thought it was wonderful. Both pictures were taken at the Blue Grotto, a part of the coast where the water is a beautiful shade of blue. The first one is the local police station. The very low crime rate is a definite bonus. The second was taken just as the light was beginning to fade. Ann

Ann - what beautiful pictures! Sri Lanka must have been amazing. I would love to visit Malta too, as I've heard wonderful things about it. Maria
