i don't often have time for tea and toast - one or the other maybe on the run - so i put the old toaster in the garden in memory of my days being single, no kids, taking all day to read the weekend newspapers etc. (of course we have a new toaster - my husband manages to toast anything he can - either that or he is sticking something in the microwave. what is it with men always wanting to stick something somewhere!). lesley p.s. now that i see this - there is some clover sneaking in on the left - i'll have to take care of that tomorrow.

I have a teapot just like that! How long before there's a plant growing out of it? And has that sempervivum (I think) really taken root in the toaster?

;D That's a great idea Lesley. I love seeing quirky things in gardens half-hidden amongst the plants. I've seen the occasional teapot in gardens and one of my friends nailed her old doc martin boots to the wall of her cottage (either side of the front door!) and stuck plants in them - lasted a good ten years or so before the Northumbrian weather finally made them disintegrate. ;D Gill

ann, the sempervivum is rooted in the toaster - i should stick one in the teapot also. the sempervivum's (hen's and chick's they sometimes call them here) grow really well in my yard. i've put them in several mostly dry areas. they could probably take over the yard if i let them.
gill, i'd love to put boots or something quirky on the front of the house - my husband would have a fit. the 'cottage' look is my favourite - doesn't really work with our great big lumbering 1970's house. i'm allowed the backyard though!

I love the photo it is just lovely…many years ago my husband and I grew succulents and cacti. We had many varied species and added to them for quite a few years. Then one summer a group of youngsters decided it would be great fun to abscond with as many cacti as they could carry. After that incident we lost interest…as we lost a lot of our prime specimens, so it was a treat for me to view your photo it brought back a lot of memories.
