Those who follow the Puzzle Pic threads will have seen this picture of a particularly tatty "Girl's Own Annual" that I picked up a few weeks ago. I hadn't intended to buy it, but it looked so tatty that I felt sorry for it sitting there unwanted on the shelf. I've been working on it off and on for a while and this is the end result. Bookbinding is a very satisfying hobby!

Nice work, Ann! (Although, personally, I think all these "puzzle pictures" should be burned[/u][/color], not bound ..... )

Kaye, you'll be happy to know that before I stitched it back together I scanned in all the puzzle poems!

It looks fantastic Ann! It's a treat to see something go from looking so unloved into something that can be treasured properly once again. Maria

Good work there Ann - looks like your efforts really paid off. I wouldn't have believed the former could have ended up looking like the latter once more.

I have to agree with Mark on this one, I used to work in the leather work section for a company that did book binding and jewelry case lining and covering (we only used good quality leather and made items for Tiffany's, Cartier, HRH, etc for jewelry to sit in/on) so I know how much hard work goes into getting the finished product. I know about sciving the leather, the stitching and gluing. (and the cuts ) that go to making a book look that good. I'm very impressed ;D

I can't afford the top quality skins Cathrin, they're between £100 and £200 and way outside my price range. I'm lucky in that there's a big bookbinding supplier just this side of Edinburgh though. I call in regularly on my way to Falkirk and can rummage around to my heart's content in their attic where they keep the reject and seconds skins. Often the only problem is a hole or 3 in the skin, or a bit where the dye hasn't taken properly and which can be cut around. I've had some great buys there. That's Jen in the pics below, helping me search. It looks positively Dickensian doesn't it?!

Looks stunning to me - I can lamost smell the leather mmmmm. Makes me want to start rummaging around and dig out my leather tools. I love places like that (my wallet doesn't though)
