A couple of weeks ago, I looked out of the window to see a blackbird apparently collapsed on the top of my garden rubbish wheelie bin. I was very concerned until I threw a handful of raisins out and the "collapsed one" suddenly came to life and swooped down for a feed. Since then, every sunny morning, there he's been, soaking up the warmth. Yesterday morning I got a quick pic. He's a bit obscured by the cotoneaster in the background and the fact that I had to take the pic through the window, but you can just about see him, head up, beak open enjoying the sunshine.

it is funny what birds will do. they take over our backyard when we aren't out there. the sparrows 'dig' in the dry patches of dirt (many areas of that). they look like they are having such a good time, 20 or 30 of them at once.

p.s. you must have quite the supply of raisins in the house!

The sparrows here have dust baths too. When the ground isn't so dry, I end up with little hollows all along the borders. It's funny to watch them rolling around in the soil, fluttering their wings, just as though they were in a birdbath.
A few weeks ago when all the blackbirds were feeding their young, I was getting through loads of raisins every day. It's fallen off now as all the young must have left the nests and Mums and Dads are having a break. Luckily, raisins are very cheap to buy!
I don't have any blackbirds eating from my hand at the moment, but they're tame enough not to bother waiting until the patio's all clear before they come down. When I was sitting out there 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was constantly getting parents arriving and asking me for raisins, then sitting on the wall or the gate whilst I went in the house to get yet another handful.
