I didn't take a lot of pictures as it wasn't that kind of trip, but here are a few. I did quite a lot of short journeys by tuk tuk. They're a bit bone shaking to ride around in and no one takes any notice of the Highway Code, assuming they have one, so you find yourself in heavy traffic, sandwiched between a bus and a car with about 2" to spare on either side! It's definitely an experience. This was a Sunday market in Mount Lavinia. The colours were amazing and I was probably eating some of the vegetables with my dinner that evening! This was where I stopped for a drink most days when I'd finished my morning pottering around. It's part of the public area of the Mount Lavinia Hotel. Next trip I'm planning to stay there at least for a few nights as it was beautiful. The first pic is the terrace where I sat and the second pic is the view I looked onto. The 2 waitresses there quickly began to recognise me and I got a lovely welcome from them every day. Chipmunks are everywhere. This one came onto the terrace of the hotel where Sunny, Swarna and I were having tea. Sunny threw him/her a bit of biscuit and I got the picture. Another day I was sitting drinking tea in another hotel, under the shade of an Indian almond tree when I realised bits of something were dropping onto me. On looking more closely I realised they were bits of Indian almond. (Could have been worse!!) Above me, a chipmunk was having lunch!!

It was actually a source of great amusement to Sunny that I was spending 4 weeks in the tropics and hadn't even brought a swimming costume with me! I can swim, but I don't like swimming pools (hate the smell of chlorine), so the most I did was a bit of paddling in the Indian ocean.

Oh Ann…
From your photos and your posts you must have had a marvelous time. The marketplace looks so colorful…how I would like to take a walk through it and view all its wares…

I wouldn't have dared drive the tuk tuk!!! If there is a Highway Code in Sri Lanka, no one takes any notice of it! I just sat in the back and got driven. It was a very cheap way of getting around and the driver was quite happy to wait for you if you wanted to go shopping and then drive you back again.
