When I was in Sri Lanka, I did some short journeys by train. The local station was quite close by. If it looks familiar, it's because it would have been built by the British many years ago and has never been touched since. Just like a lot of the stations here! This was the train coming in. This train was in comparatively good nick. Most of them no longer had any windows or doors! Note the drop from the train to the platform too! What you can't see is the gap between the train and the platform which could be considerable. These trains are not for anyone with mobility problems! My journeys were about 15 minutes long and just 3 stations up the line. Believe it or not, a single ticket only cost 2p! This pic was taken from the train through a window that no longer had any glass in it. That's the Indian Ocean through the palm trees and you can just see a small fishing boat that's been pulled up onto the beach. The shack to the right is someone's home - probably the owner of the boat! (And don't believe a word I said in the title. After my last trip on British Rail, when carriage G on which I was booked didn't exist, I'm quite sure I'll never have the willpower not to complain!)
