.................. and I wasn't terribly impressed! My best friend, Lyn got here safely and we went off to the travel agents last Wednesday to see what was available. Not much as it turned out!
The hotel was nice enough, lovely country setting, clean, decent sized rooms and the food was excellent as well as being reasonably priced. It took about 15 minutes to get into the city centre by Metro and that too was very efficient. Pity about the hotel staff who were curt to the point of rudeness at times.
What I also didn't like was being ripped off right, left and centre and the surly attitude of just about every Czech national. For example a small coke in the city centre cost £2.30 in one cafe, compared to 25p back at the hotel. I could just about live with that until I got charged another 25p for using their loo! On top of that, they were expecting a tip!! Another waiter got really grumpy when we paid using up all our small change. I also thought it was sad that the old town had been turned into a "Kiss Me Quick" type resort with wall to wall tacky souvenir shops. If I never see another piece of Bohemia crystal, it won't be too soon!!
I did enjoy spending time with Lyn, who flew back down to Hampshire yesterday. We hadn't been able to get together for 6 years so it was great to be able to spend some time with each other instead of just burning up the phone lines.
I didn't take many photos, but will add a couple when I've downloaded them.

I was pleased that I walked through Wenceslas Square as that has some real history to it. The large building in the centre is the museum. The Old Town Square has an astronomical clock. The Prague marathon was on the Sunday we were there, so access was limited, but you could still get a good view. We took a boat trip, which would probably have been interesting if we could have a) heard what the guide was telling us and b) understood his accent. I still don't have a clue which of the many buildings that were pointed out was Prague Castle, but I do know this is Charles Bridge!

ann, lovely that you were able to get away, but what a shame to not be treated well. prague is suppose to have a lot of history, too bad you weren't able to hear some of it! your photos are wonderful, as always. looks like the weather was perfect. next time you get together with lyn are you going to stay closer to home? lol.

The photos are lovely Ann. I took a special look at them because I rather fancy going to Prague when I can get there. Pity about the treatment though. It seems that it's not a unique experience in long standing typical touristy places but I wouldn't have expected that in Prague.
