Do you always call out your cats' names in full? Obviously I don't mean do you go out the back door and wail: "Grand Premier Cloudborn Sira EIRik!!!" but rather do you always go out there and shout "Loki" or "Thor" or whatever their pet names are, no matter how simple? Where Thor is concerned, for instance, I'm most inclined to yell "THOR!" only when I'm annoyed or worried. At other times it tends to be "Tor" or "Thor-boy", or even "Thorry". Weird, I suppose, but maybe we need the variation.

poor cleo and coco do not have such fancy names, so we embellish ; coco lover, coco bell , cleo bunny etc.. however, they are not responsible for answering any of them. of course.

I use the term Siiillllk (as in long and growley, when he is pushing his luck) but I also call him Silky when being endearing and even Mr Tufty, when I am winding him up, like when I am tickling him. (being part Abby, he has HUGE ear tufts that most Abby's would die for)
Drizzt gets called Drizzit more often then not, not sure why, well yes I do, it has something to do with the passage in a book where a kid see's this dark elf, who tries to introduce himself as Drizzt and the kid gets scared and runs home shouting 'It's a DRIZZIT!' which kind of describes our Drizzit rather well.
Felia also gets called Fluffy Bum, but luckily she can't hear that. (but she has got a very fluffy bum, which also she sways as she walks very like May West --- sorry can't think of a modern alternative--- Unfortunatley Freyja's main nickname is 'Tart!' because she flaunts herself at any male guests here, something rotten.

There isn't really a lot you can do with names like Spock and Dracs. Dracs never needs calling home as he rarely gets more than 3 or 4 yards from the door unless he's on my shoulder. Spock just ignores me if it doesn't suit him to come home.
Many years ago, my family did have two Siamese called, Tong Sin and Thiam Chan, abbreviated to Sin and Chan. We all spent a great deal of time, usually late at night calling for Sin to come home. Must've sounded pretty weird to anyone who didn't know it was a cat we were looking for.

Sam is the only one of our cats that gets out so I shout "Sammy boy" to get him inside. It never usually works but I shout it anyway! I think we tend to give all our cats nicknames. Anglica is called 'Jelly Bean' because i call her Jelly (An-JELLY-ca) for short and so Jelly Bean just came from that. Or 'Jel Bel' is another nickname. She only gets called her full name if she is in trouble!

Pie usually becomes 'Pie-skie' or 'Pie-Cat'; or 'Little Pie' or even 'Ickles'. Liffey Moonbeam is summoned by any variation of Liffey, Moon, Moon Boy etc etc Bella responds best to just that, although if she delays in coming in I call for 'Isabella'. Obviously, they usually completly ignore me and sit and stare at me from a vantage point that is just out of my reach, perhaps lazilly licking a paw.
Collectively, they are the "Tins". This odd nickname came from the time that we first got them home. We called them "The Kittens" which somehow got shortened to "Tins" and it just stuck. It sounds nuts, but it does suit them, I promise.
The best yell I have is for the stray, because he is often far away (his territoty is huge) so I have to use my voice to full force: "Gggiiiiiinnnngerrrrr....nutttt" Is it too late to convince the neighbours that I am normal?

I am quite embarrassed by what I call the cats! Lily gets called Lilypins or Miss WooWoo, Oscar = Oz, Big Oz, Ozzie and Henry = Henry Wenry as well as other terms of endearment. And Holly our dog has been called Doodle or Doods as her pet name since she was a puppy. It looks even more silly written down :-)

Ribbons can be "Ribbons", "Ribsie", "Sweetie" (because she is... ....Bailey is "Bailey", "Bailey Boy", or - if he's being obstinate, or you hear one of "those" sounds in the next room and you just KNOW he's....uuuummmm..."mapping out" a Forbidden Zone - "The Boy" ("Did you hear that...? Where's the Boy...?")... He gets called that a lot.....but he's a Siamese, after all...and he wears it well... Miles

Which book was that, Silk? It sounds just my cup of tea - I like children's books and fantasy.

from Dorset have many nicknames, not all of them polite enough to mention here, but listed below are the ones that won't offend...
ASTRA's nicknames go back to when she was a tiny kitten when she was mostly known as Small Kitten, Small Fry, or Pint Size. As the years went on she gained a few more - Asti, or Asti-Pasti, Small-eyes, Lady Gardener (because she reminded us so much of a 'humanised' lilac-point Siamese cat ornament we bought in Exeter, which had the title 'Lady Gardener'), and very occasionally, Ashtray, which really wasn't very complimentary, was it?!
JETHRO's names were Jed, Jeddy, Jeddles, Jeddles-Peddles, and Badger-Belly, (don't ask!) And he was my 'Best Boy'.
ROSCO gets called Ros, Rossie, Roskins, Blue Boy, Mr Blue, Rosco P. Coltrane, Rossie-dude, Roscal (a play on Rascal) and Butch.
ELSA's names include Ellie, Ella, Elsie or Elsie-Belsie, Fat-Belly-Ellie, (because she has one!) and Mona (moaner).
FARO gets called Fairy-oh, Archie, (because of his often arched back), Pat, ('cos he is always patting us with his paws), and was once referred to as British F-aerospace!
JACOB, the baby of the family, is known as Jake, Jakey, Jacoby or Jacoby-Bakaby. My husband suggested referring to him as 'The Return of the Jeddy' since he was born the day Jethro died, is the same sex, same colour and came from the same breeder.
We often refer to the whole lot of them as the Scallies, short for Scallywags.
Sometimes, we even call them by their proper names![/color] ;D

Which book was that, Silk? It sounds just my cup of tea - I like children's books and fantasy. Drizzt comes from a rather long series (and to be honest not brilliantly written... but I've still got most of them and enjoyed them nonetheless) It is a fantasy series in the 'Forgotten Realms' (TSR..D&D stuff) written by RA Salvatore. The saga (some 13+ books now) is called The Dark Elf Chronicles and are rather dark and gloomy in a lot of places, (Not a childrens book, but is fantasy) They all feature Drizzt who is a dark elf that has broken with his peoples chaotic culture and become a Ranger. I think TSR (or as it is now: Wizards of the coast) have released the early ones in omnibussues now. (whereas our Drizzt just ranges everywhere and is chaotic in his nature )

Great, I've got some of the Forgotten Realms books - not enough, though, I've been planning to enlarge that collection. I saw some in Sue Ryders and would have bought them, only they were £1 each and there were a lot of Dragonlance too - those were taking priority. I ended up with 9 Dragonlance books - £9 - had a tenner in my purse. I went back later to see if the Forgotten Realms books were still there, but no - not a single one

Always the way.
That is why my overdraft is ALWAYS at breaking point, I always have the argument, 'But it might not be there next week!'

We have Nicky and sprinkles, who get called almost anything but there proper names. here are a few: Nicky: NiNi , Nickelodian, Nickels, SuperNickyBoy, Boy kitty. Somepretty NIcky Boy when I am sweet talking him. Sprinkles: Sprink, Sprinky, sprinkleDinkleDoo, Myowcat. My husband thinks they don't answer because they do not know their names, from being called so many different ones. I know better... they answer in their own good time!
