It's cloudy, wet and miserable here today. Spock is spending the afternoon in his usual place on my duvet, but Dracs has been bored. Consequently he's been taking a great interest in everything I've been doing. I was getting on quite well with the sewing until I got some help. When I stopped sewing in order to see how the picture had come out, guess who came along too? But then he decided all that brainwork was too much and it was time for a cuddle. One way and another I haven't got nearly as much done this afternoon as I'd intended! Ann

ann, what a strange coincidence. wet and miserable here too. cleo is bored. following me around as i try and clean up the house. in each room she mournfully mews at me.
and, not kidding but i have the same singer sewing machine (early seventies model)! now, if you only had two bad toddlers fighting at your feet we would have a parallel universe thing happening. parallel continent thing!

What a coincidence! My machine is a "Touch and Sew" and was already second hand when I bought it in the mid seventies. It has to be one of my best buys ever, I wouldn't like to estimate how many clothes I've made on it over the years.
I'm pretty much used to being "helped" by cats when I use it, but I can't imagine 2 toddlers as well!
I've just added a couple of pictures of the finished articles that you can see me sewing, to the Pretty Kitty thread in the Reading Room.
Commiserations on your weather. I think we had our summer here a few weeks ago. It's downhill from now on!

What I want to know is:
How on erth do you manage to keep those items on top of your desk? (the shelf at the top)
I can guarantee Felia and co would have had that 'distributed' all over the room within five minutes of me putting in there, so they could have another resting place.
Also that rack thingy you have next to you would also have been emptied by them, in favour of something else and there is no way I could have a dangling cable around. If I did, whatever it was attatched to would be 'History'.
As for typing etc., with a cat on your lap? You mean there is a way to do it without??

;)When my two get bored I resort to dirty tricks. They were fidgety today so I put my heated back pad under their fleece and switched it on! Within ten minutes Misty had found it and obviously told Daisy telepathically and that was it - peaceful day all round. Do I spend the time catching up - oh no, I read the paper without a small cat appearing on it all the time and without a Siamese cat talking to me throughout the crossword.
I must hasten to add that I don't leave the heat pad on, only until they've settled and then off it goes. I think they're fidgety because the heating's not turned up all the time at the moment so there's no hot radiator and there's no sun coming through the window to lounge in.
If I'm trying to work on the computer and they're about Misty will haul herself onto my lap and play about with the keys and any cables. She's probably sleeping off the excesses of her birthday at the moment.
Neither of my two are remotely interested in my sewing machine, but when it comes to knitting - well have you ever tried knitting with wet wool? They use it as dental floss. Misty loves to help with jig saw puzzles by taking a piece in her mouth and dropping it on the floor. As you know Daisy is only into rubber mice so she's quite easy to cope with!

Marion, Reading the newspaper and doing the crossword is one of my morning routines too. Like you I often get help. The wet wool and/or crochet cotton is very familiar. Nothing like knitting away and suddenly feeling a cold wet soggy bit of wool in your fingers! Worst case scenario is one trying to catch the needles and the other playing with the wool simultaneously. Ann

Liffey can't resist helping me type. He's so keen, that he's on me the moment he hears the computer being switched on. He'll have ignored me for hours, but suddenly he wants my lap!
If he just sat and dictated it wouldn't be so bad, but he does like to head-butt my hands as I type and if I ignore him, he goes for the mouse in a big way!

Ann, AAhhhh, but they're just soooo helpful, aren't they....? Only a Siamese can turn a 1/2 hour task into a 2-hour one...(and that's NOT counting the requisite cuddle time...)..!! But....would we have it any other way...? Hmmmm...on the ONE hand...uuummmm....but on the OTHER hand.....hhhmmmm... I guess the cuddle time is the equalizer here...isn't it...? Give both those angel/rascal/angels some ear scritchies for us.... Miles

I too am used to typing with a cat on my lap. Henry at present. All the cats have a fetish for pens, they see it as their duty to remove them to the floor as soon as possible, where they go from there I don't know but they have all disappeared - again! Love the pictures of you and Dracs, Ann.

Denny - my cats have a thing for pens too.
This evening Liffey was sitting on the couch, busy moving several items from the coffee table to the floor. (Pens, a notebook, my bookmark etc). I dutifully fetched some cat toys, and placed them temptingly on the edge of the table. Obviously, he completely ignored those and skulked off!! Cats!!
