For several years now, alpacas have been grazing in a field in Seaton Sluice, a village a couple of miles north of here. Whenever I'm in Seaton Sluice, I can't resist walking along to visit them. A few months ago, I joined a knitting group in Seaton Sluice and met their owner who was also a member. She told me that the sheep that graze there are rare Manx Laoughtons. She sends the fleeces of both alpacas and sheep off to a company in Cornwall who turn it into knitting wool. When this year's batch arrived, you might know I couldn't resist it. It's 40% alpaca, 60% manx laoughton and very soft and springy. I wore my new jumper for the first time yesterday under a waxed jacket and it kept me as warm as toast. Of course I'm going to wear it next time I visit the field although I'm wondering if the alpacas and sheep will recognise their coats and hold it against me! (Either that or welcome me into their family!!)

I bet they all come running!!! Lovely jumper, Ann. My mum used to knit all the time, but I never really got the hang of it...prefer crochet as it grows quicker! lesley t x

Ooooh VERY nice And it DOES look cosy too! There seems to be a lot of alpacas around these days - I've seen three jusat outside Alnwick at Rennington and someone in Longhorsley has LOADS.....as well as wallabies and emus! THOSE had me slamming on my brakes and going back for a second look I can tell you ;D I thought I'd imagined them as I drove past

Another photo of the Alpacas at Seaton Sluice. Unfortunately I didn't have a zoom lens with me so this is a very tight crop of a picture taken on my phone camera.
