The poet Rod McKuen passed away recently. In an obituary a quote of his was given about cats whom he apparently admired and likened himself to. I thought I would share. "Cats have it all," he once wrote, "admiration, an endless sleep and company only when they want it."
That sounds just about right to me.

I was a big fan of Rod McKuen and only heard yesterday that he'd died on 29th January. I was a regular at his London concerts and can still see him sitting there chatting away to the audience. I still have a lot of his books and records and one day, I'll get around to tranferring the latter onto DVDs. I've been looking online for the poem "Me and the Cat", to add a link to it, but can't find it anywhere. I won't post it all here as I don't want to infringe copyright law, but the last line of each verse really hit the spot for me in summing up my relationship with Alexander. "me in my shirttails, him with his whiskers, me and the cat"

I don't require the admiration but I like the endless sleep and the company only when I want it part of the description for myself.

A friend of mine once commented that cats had the perfect set up. They loved being stroked and had bodies that humans couldn't resist touching.
