I think I told the story before about how Gracie used to have a problem with two of her claws becoming ingrown.I don't know how this could not have hurt when she walked but apparently it didn't. She never acted as though she were in pain nor did she limp. I didn't discover the problem until I saw some bloody footprints on my bedspread. She had to be anesthetized and have the claws released from her paws.
Also, she had itchy ears that had to be cleaned out periodically. So off we went to the vet's to have ears cleaned and claws snipped every couple of months.
Well, guess who has the same troubles? Her name is Roxie. I noticed she had a big, monster claw. I hadn't seen this before. I tried to snip it but she yelled and swatted me. Then she stepped aside, sat for a moment, then came back and gave me another swat for good measure. She had also been scratching her ears a lot. It was time to go to the vet's to sort it all out.
The results were the claw had just begun growing into her paw. Fortunately though it was just the tip and the vet was able to snip the claw and pull out the piece of claw just as one would a sliver in a finger. Whew! Unfortunately, as with Gracie, it would be a problem from now on.
Roxie's ears also needed help. There was a large wax buildup. It was the same as Gracie used to have. And neither is happy about their trip to the vet although Roxie is far more vocal about it. Gracie just did some un-lady like things in her carrier. The prescribed ear drops a popular item either.
So to the vet we shall go every couple of months for nails trimmed and ears cleaned. Just as with Gracie. I think maybe Roxie is channeling Gracie's less unfortunate traits. Coincidence?
