We now have Ribbons, a beautiful Siamese chocolate lynx point...and she just happens to be...Bailey's Mom....! <br>It's a long story, some of you know it..for those that don't, in brief: Ribbons is Bailey's mom...the breeder that had her decided she wanted out of the Siamese breeding biz after Ribbon's first litter. She sold all 4 of the kittens and told us she was selling Ribbons as well....one of the people who had come by to look at the kittens was going to take Ribbons instead but backed out a week later after they visited her again and decided she wasn't very "friendly" (I found this near impossible to believe as we knew Ribbons well from all our visits to the breeder, and she was always the absolute sweetest loving lynxie you could imagine...I fell in love with her immediately...). My only explanation is that Ribbons didn't like THEM, so in that respect I'm sooo glad they didn't take her.
I had been talking to my Mom about Bailey, and I mentioned what was going on with Ribbons - how sweet she was, how much I'd love to take her, but felt it would be too much right now with Bailey....she called up the breeder, went to see her and decided to take her herself (there was a reason - she was actually secretly "fostering" her for us, which I suspected from the first!). Ribbons has now been spayed (she came thru beautifully) and now my Mom's asking us when we would be ready to take her (I knew it...!!).
Deb and I have been talking about this, about "when" would be the right time....and our feeling too is that it should be as soon as possible, before Bailey gets much bigger.
Sooo...last Sunday we went to my Mom's and brought her home...!
It was a long 24 hrs getting them adjusted, but we've made great progress....!
Bailey is having it the hardest adjusting..to sharing his space, his toys, his "humans"....he's very cocky and began stalking Ribbons as soon as she arrived....
He would follow her from behind or a blind side and then rush her, but wouldn't touch her...she would hold her ground...growling, hissing and slapping him...he would jump back and retreat to a safe distance....
...and then do it again...and again....and again..!
...until she'd had enough...then she would charge him and "box his lil ears rather soundly"....he followed her up the tree and made the mistake of getting too close...she cleaned his clock once again...
He got the idea...slowly...that she wouldn't take any guff from him....the breakthru finally came at around noon the next day - Ribbons had found a little sliver of sunshine to bask in...Bailey cautiously and very deferentially lay down beside her, no growling from Ribbons this time - a first...!
I knew we were gonna make it when I caught this exchange about an hour later on a window sill...
it was almost enough to make a grown man cry...Bailey grooming Mom...
They're still tousling, Bailey still stalks her now and again...but it's with a difference - now they're playing, not fighting...it appears he's starting to accept that she's here to stay.....and I think he realizes he has a buddy now.....!
I think we're ALL gonna make it....!
