Now I just thought of this as I was typing a reply to another thread, and instead thought it was more fitting as a fresh one:
Freyja, our full Abby (once queen), and commanly nicknamed the lap limpet. Is very strange when it come to things like claw clipping: If you try and tip them as normal, she freeks, struggles, fights whatever she can to get away.
However! If on the other hand, one of you covers her eye's with a hand whilst the other does 'the dirty deed' she will hardly struggle at all, its as though what she can't see cant hurt her.
So, what strange things do your cats do, or want done to them in order to complete a task or chore?

;DI will have to see if that trick works with Angel?,will let you know. She screams the place down as if youve hurt her as soon as youve clipped, whereas Elphin as soon as you get the clippers out jumps up to have his done and at the same time you clip one of his claws hes chewing one of my nails-LOL. He also if i havent done it by a certain time(Devons feel the cold),sits by the electric blanket switch, patting at it and yelling hes head of for me to turn it on. 8) Ill save the bra saga for another time(prob kitnening stories). My cats also have strange or funny behavior. They are devons too. I wonder if that makes them particularly strange!
Iggy will walk up on my chest in the middle of night and pat at my neck trying to pull they blankets back. This is so he can crawl under them and then I pull them up over his head. He then snuggles his little head under my chin so he purr and can drool on my neck and kneed me with his paws. If I try to turn my head to the right he gets upset and uses his paw the pull my chin back to the left so it is right on top of his head. It is very funny. When I told my boyfriend about the head pulling, he didn't believe me until I showed him. Sometimes Iggy will do this three times in a night waking me up, and some days he will skip completely. I have to be careful so as not to wake up with kitten hickies!
Bowie is even stranger. He likes to get your attention and then turn on his heel and run away. You can see he is looking out of the corner of his eye to see if you are following him. Also he won't sleep with us. The two are usually attached at the hips and sleep one on top of the other in a little bed during the day. But Bowie won't sleep on our bed at night, even though he does jump up and like to play on it. At bed time though he goes to be by himself and it kind of makes us sad! Iggy is a permanent sleeping partner. Last night Bowie went under the bed and was meowing but when we put him on top to sleep with us he ran away.
Any ideas on this strange behavior?

The boys are both amazingly placid when it comes to claw clipping. Dracs, who's normally the cuddly one is actually slightly the more difficult of the two. The weird behaviour comes from Spock. He will normally never suffer the indignity of being "upended", yet he sits there quite happily and, when I've finished, will stay cuddled up to me and go completely soppy for 5 minutes. I couldn't believe it the first time it happened, it was so out of character, but it's the same every time, so I just enjoy it along with him now.

We would just like to say that we take exception to this thread! Everything we do is perfectly normal and sensible. it's the humans who are the crazy ones. In fact we could write a book about their weird practices. Oh! That's right - we already did! Spock and Dracs www.catsup.co.uk/book.htm

Last night Bowie went under the bed and was meowing but when we put him on top to sleep with us he ran away. Any ideas on this strange behavior? Well isn't it obvious? He was warning you about the threat of Hefalumps hiding under the bed which he could handle, but once you put him 'on the bed' where the threat also included Woozles, it was too much and he had to run away. PS: Silk is a champion when it comes to killing woozles, although at 18lb it nigh on threatens to break your toes when he does so. ---- Oh yeah, I supppose I'd better explain: Woozle killing is chasing and attacking the woozles that move and wander under the bedcloths at night, sometimes mistaken for humans wiggling toes and moving feet, from here derives the favourite pastime of Woozle hunting, which is a feline event of almost olympic standards.
Hefelumps on the other hand, hide under the bed as can be proven by the mounds of dust and dirt they deposit there, again these are frequently hunted at night by our feline companions, from where they chase them out from under the bed and up and down landings and stairs at high speeds. Although it is rumoured humans can't see either of these midnight menaces 8) 8)

<<<<sigh>>>> Purrleese!! DON'T mention claw clipping. One screams for all the world as if you're trying to murder her; one takes a look at the clippers and sticks all of hers into your leg, one runs if he just SEES them and you're doing your own toe nails, and the other thinks 'what a wonderful game!' and wriggles so much it's impossible. The other I don't bother with as he goes out!

Okay how about this one? Now I apologise for the image this will create but it is true, and again it stars Freyja, our very own Deva. We call it the red bottom shuffle, and it involves her hooking both front paws into something like an apolstered chair whilst lifting BOTH rear legs at the same time and dragging her bum along the surface. It has to be one of the most ungainly sights I have ever seen a cat commit. I would love to snap a shot of it, but I fear retribution for such an act would be rather harsh (if not well deserved ;D) so instead here is an older shot of her looking a little more refined

That reminds me of the sight I've come to dread, that of one of the boys dragging a bum along the floor whilst in a kind of sitting position. I dread it because it invariably means one of them has left the litter tray with something still attached to his rear end. The resulting soft bum shuffle is the attempt to dislodge it. I spend the next few minutes scouring the carpet, literally and metaphorically for skid marks and small lumps.

We have a Doorbell Monster that comes to the house regularly. When the monster rings the doorbell, all three cats make a frantic, wild-eyed and urgent dash upstairs, bashing each other out of the way, and skidding madly on the laminate flooring until they reach the safety of the bedroom window sill.

Woozles and hefalumps! That makes perfect sense. All this time Bowie was trying to warn us of the dangers we sleep in the midst of every night and we just thought he was a weirdo! I will need to apologize to our galiant warrior and keep our eyes peeled from now on! Thank you for this invaluable information Silk. ;D

I wonder if this is the Abby in her? Muff who's a Somali (and therefore a close cousin to to Abbys) has a very similar reaction, although we don't trim her claws. I'd never even dream of trying! Try doing anything she doesn't want and it's instant hysterics!
If you pick her up when she's not in the mood she growls but when she's in the mood she'll be on your lap for hours purring like a mad thing. So if she needs her collar changing or anything like that I wait until she's curled up and in the mood. Then anything goes.

Sass Interesting thought, I love Somali's, as you say the fluffy cousins of Abby's. The only reason we didn't go for a Somali was the fluff factor and Cat's (my wifes) alergy related asthma which does react strongly to certain coats (Felia nigh on kills her as she never lost her kitten soft fluffy coat) Like you say, when Freyja is in the 'Love me' mood almost anything goes. Cat cringes at some of the things I do to her at times, nothing nasty but if you wring and pull her ears, which looks terrible, she just adores it, (must get those hard to reach itches or something) Mark PS: Freyja says she hasn't had any Abby in her since she had The Operation I wonder if this is the Abby in her? PPS: Sorry that was a bit crude, but it just reminded me how much Freyja used to enjoy her trips to stud, I swear she used to purposly not take, just so she would get another 'Holiday'

How true with the ear wringing!!! That's one of the things Muff really likes. Indeed she'll force her heed back into you to keep reminding you that she wants a bit, and a bit more, ... and just a bit more please, ... and that's still not enough. You can even do both ears at the same time ;D
On the other hand reach down to storke her when she's not in the mood and she's on the other side of the house half a nanosecond later.
