Jen and I are very friendly with Mucklette and Chalmers Cats (aka Jan, Rita and Lisa). They along with some others, run a small cat rescue charity in the Falkirk area of Scotland. As well as rescuing, neutering and rehoming cats, the charity runs an Adopt a Cat scheme. Jen and I both participate, so from time to time we go to Falkirk to see our adopted orphans. (It's quite nice to see all the human members of the charity too.) We were there this past weekend, were given a wonderful welcome and had a great time as usual. I took my digital camera with me, so you could see several pictures of the visit appearing on different threads in the next few days. (I don't want to hog them all to myself.) The first picture is Anthony, a rescued Siamese. I think I was a little bit too close, so the definition in the first shot isn't as good as I'd have liked, but you can still see his deep blue eyes. He's the cat I adopted, so he's stepbrother to Spock and Dracs. Jen adopted Hannah, who's a friendly little soul and made both of us welcome. In the first picture she's with Jen, in the second she's with me. Ann

We all had a lovely at the weekend when Ann and Jen visited. The cats also enjoyed having 2 other people fussing over them! (esp Hannah who is an attention seeker at the best of times!) The first picture of Anthony is wonderful, Ann! He is a very shy boy at the so it is very difficult to get neer him to take a good picture. The other cats in the picture are Dixon (the black one looking at the camera) and Angelica (the tortie at the back). Dixon is our own cat and Angelica and Anthony are both register cats. All of which are rescued and have their own stories. When i get a chance, i will write a thread all about Dixon. We all had a great time this weekend and hope to see Ann and Jen in the neer future. It was so nice to have Ann and Jen here and could I thank Ann for her patience in helping me with the computer and website. So - after tuition - here is a picture of another CRR cat - "Lionel" (a real rough/tough street cat when he came into care very ill in November). Now he likes to spend his days on "his" couch. Thanks again. Jan www.rainbowsedge.co.uk

Lovely picture. I love rough street cats, ours was from Urmston in Manchester. When we relocated her 100 yds from his former home I had to don full motorcycle leathers, gauntlets and helmet to carry her to avoid being scratched to pieces. I'm never without battle scars, we reckon it keeps her motivated. It's great when she lulls you into false security before letting fly, claws and teeth ablaze.

Ann, Wonderful furkids...I just love Anthony...! When you say "adopted", what does that mean...? Is he going to be coming to live with you and the Boys...?

Miles, "Adopt a Cat" is a sponsorship scheme. The charity selects about 9 or 10 "orphans" that it knows are very unlikely ever to be rehomed and offer them up for adoption. It costs £10 (roughly $15) a year. You get a letter with as much information about the orphan as the charity knows, an adoption certificate, a personal thank you letter from your adopted "orphan" and regular updates. The orphans meanwhile continue to live with their foster carers, but you can arrange to visit them. (Each orphan has a number of adopters.) You can see the Cat Register and Rescue orphans looking for adopters at www.candie.demon.co.uk/crr_index.htm (The link to see the orphans is right at the very bottom of the page in small letters!) Aaahhh - I thought it might be something like that, but wasn't completely sure....! Can anyone...say, someone from another country, perhaps....sponsor one of these orphans...?

Miles,
Yes of course! There may be an adjustment to the amount to cover the extra postage, but you'd need to contact the lady who runs the scheme. She's another Rita (not the Rita who's half of Chalmers Cats). I do know there's been at least one US adopter already.

Yes there has been another US adopter (adopted anthony-you US have good taste!!). Anyone can sponsor, it doesnt matter what country your from. If you go to the website www.candie.demon.co.uk/crr_index.htm or www.rainbowsedge.co.uk you will get more information. It is a really good scheme and very popular. The picture ann took really does him justice. He is a wonderful cat but very strange! As you might have read, i think he is going through a mid-life crisis at the moment!! Once we get a digital camera (!) I will take more photos of him and the other cats for the board. Lisa

Rereading this post brings home to me the difference a couple of years has made to Anthony. When I wrote the original post, he was still very shy and standoffish. Now he makes sure he's included in everything that's going on and even allows me to pick him up and cradle him like a baby. The change in him has been quite remarkable and lovely to see. Just shows you what a difference having the right home can make.
