I haven't posted one of these for ages. Anyone fancy giving it a try? I think the first word of the title is April, but beyond that, I haven't looked at it properly yet. (I was trying to pick a word in the title I could use for the file name and that was the best I could do.) April Tears 1. Oh how I long for Summer skies and flowers! 2. Drear winter, lingering guest move on apace: 3. With tears of April flooding all my face 4. I prithee go, and leave us brighter hours. 5. As up the street and in the town I wend, 6. What storms conspire long Winter's woes to seal. 7. Oh smiles of May, O flowers of Spring come heal, 8. And blessings from both rich and poor shall blend. 9. Would that repented sin in pent-up force 10. Would burst and yield as surely fruits and flowers! 11. 'Twere worth the fullest life of storms and showers 12. To gain at last angelic intercourse!

Anyone know what 4 dots signify?
Edited to add that after about half an hour googling various search phrases I've discovered it means "as". I'm not sure it actually helps though!

Cathrin, I think what you can see of the table in line 3 is a flap, so without the "l" it would be "tears of April. A letter inside another usually signifies "in", so flowing fits (flo+ing). I want the line to read,
"With tears of April flowing all down my face", but I'm not sure why the little D inside the A should mean down.
Any idea what that pic in the middle of line 5 is? It just looks like a rope with a frayed end to me. Could it be a tow rope??? I'm also wondering if the 4 dots could mean "on" rather than "as". Line 5 could then be,
"Upon the street and in the town I wend"

Ack, I'm beginning to frighten myself - I think I have a twisted mind. I've just worked out that
M x X + DLXft is 10,560ft which in turn is 6 miles. Minus 2 gives 4 miles. So the line could begin,
"Oh smiles form........."

I think your cheating and looking at the answer I agree I think it must be towed (I was thinking of a frayed knot) your line 5 sounds more plausable I do think you have to have a strange mind set to work some of these out.

I think your cheating and looking at the answer I promise you I'm not! I've almost certainly had a lot more practice at them than anyone else here though as I've been attempting them off and on for around 30 years! That's also why I try to hold off and let everyone else have a go first. I actually scanned a lot of puzzles in when I had one of the books in pieces a while ago. Unfortunately for me, I didn't scan the solutions in, so now I have to work out which of the books it was! (I have a bookcase full of them in my bedroom.) I'll add it to the solution under the pic. I'm not convinced it's right, but it may give someone else inspiration. That's what's starting to worry me!

I think you're right. I'll add it.
I've also realised that the 4 dots do mean as and line 5 is more likely to be
"As up the street and in the town I wend"
Any idea what those things at the end of line 6 are? I'm wondering if they're seals, although if they are, it doesn't actually get me any further.
I usually try and work out which line rhymes with which as that can sometimes help, but I'm even struggling with that.
We need some help!

Ann,
Line 12 the drawing looks like a writing desk, but the bit that is show is the place for the knees, does that part of a desk have a proper name? and the last part of that line 'A ligter course'?

I only know them as knee-hole desks, which isn't a lot of help!
I just realised by the way that line 8 probably starts "And beings...." rather than songs
I'm now looking at an online thesaurus to see if gives me any inspiration. Do you think for example that the waterfall could have something to do with cascading? Or could it be "flows and falls"?
I'm off now to look up synonyms for cones!
Edited to add that it's not a desk - it's a range. Minus the r and plus lic gives angelic.

Geronimo!!! I've just realised that the end of line 6 is "woes...." I thought it was "woes ignite", but I've just realised that you don't get ignite from signet without the s!
