Now we're all getting the hang of posting pictures, one of the messages Miles left, asking people where they lived put an idea into my head. I know at least some members have pictures of their local area because I've seen them, so why don't we post them here. It would be interesting to see all the localities, especially since we're getting to be quite an international board these days. I live on the north east coast of England, about a 10 minute walk from the nearest beach, so I'll kick off with some pictures of that. (I only wish we had the warm weather that goes with beaches!) This is the downside though. Ann

It only looks good on pictures unfortunately. What with the strong winds and cool weather we get here, there are only ever about 5 days in any year when you can go on the beach without the thermal underwear and thick coats.
Yes, do post a picture of the boat. Then it'll be my turn to be jealous.

We live in the Northeast USA - "New England" (as it was settled in the 1600's primarily by the English)...many of our towns and cities bear the names of their UK origins...I grew up in Portsmouth, New Hampshire - a lovely old seaport (one of the oldest in the USA) and a favorite tourist destination.... We're fortunate that where we live now is in the heart of the scenic area of New England - less than an hour's drive in any direction will take you to the Seacoast, the city of Boston, the Lakes Region, and the White Mountains...here's a seacoast shot of The Nubble of Cape Neddick, Maine - one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world (and I can attest to that fact - almost half of all those photos were taken by us...lol..!).... The Lakes Region is one of our favorite spots, and a very popular tourist area...here's a shot of Lake Winnipesaukee... To our immediate north we have the White Mountains, famous for its fall foliage and alpine skiing... Come visit us sometime, we're open year-round...! Miles & Deb & Bailey

Miles and Lesley,
I've always been a great reader and get fired up with enthusiasm for places that I read about. One of my favourite series as a child were the Sue Barton books many of which were set in New Hampshire, so that's always been a place on my "list". I hear autumn (fall) is spectacular. The pictures look wonderful. Did you know by the way that we have a Washington, New York and Philadelphia here in Tyne and Wear? (Washington Old Hall, a house in Washington village, is where George Washington's ancestors once lived.)
Later I read books by Betty McDonald whose family lived, admittedly in Washington State rather than British Columbia, but Lesley, you're going to be within shooting distance of places like the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound that also set my imagination working overtime and are on my "list". Being an island dweller myself, I can recommend it as a way of life. Vancouver Island looks great and certainly sounds like a big change for you. I wish you lots of luck!
You'll gather my "list" is rather a long one. It's also very varied and it would require a world tour to fit everything in. I think the boys would have something to say about it if I ever tried that though.

Miles,
What spectacular colours. Looks like autumn in New England is everything I've heard. The second picture is a bit too familiar for comfort, it could have been taken in the Northumbrian countryside!

ok now i can work it. that rock up there is the Isla Vedra, reputed birthplace of Hannibal (the Carthaginian elephant leading general, not the canibal) and the double for Bali Hai in South Pacific. Our Spook is an Ibicencan (it means she's from Ibiza, where we live) but her tiny world encompasses only our flat and its two balconies and next door's balcony too. Ibiza is a tiny island in the mediterranean off the coast of spain. This photo of Es Cavallet (the pony) beach was taken just two weeks ago - lucy the dalmatian is spook's best friend in her whole small world. This is a little old lady in traditional Ibicencan costume and they really do still dress like this. Now i can post photos look out for La Spook more often hasta luego stephen white - san jose - ibiza

Stephen,
Congratulations!! I'm glad you cracked it. We're getting some wonderful pictures on this thread. I'm so envious of that warm weather you have in Ibiza. The thought of walking on Whitley Bay beach in a sleeveless top in February/March is beyond me.

aaahhh. "whitley bay watch" - my favourite programme. perhaps i should reveal that es cavallet is in fact a nudist beach and that half an hour before we took this shot we had been wandering about in considerably less than sleeveless tops - apart from lucy who refused to remove her bandana. so there!

Stephen,
So where are the pictures of that then?!
Oh all right - it's a family friendly Board. That also restricts a couple of comments I was going to make about what might or might not happen if Whitley Bay had a nudist beach. I'll just have to leave you wondering!

came in early february. here are two photos (they don't do it justice) of the valley of Santa Ines, just over the "mountain" from where i live, covered in almond blossom. and Incredibly there are no tourists at all at this time of the year. the all arrive when the island is a tinder dry sweatbox!
